How do I fix my Outlook email account?

Writer: JMSNJMSN

Microsoft Outlook is a popular email client, but occasionally users face problems like emails not being sent or received, login issues, crashes, or syncing issues. If you are experiencing any of these problems, don't panic! The following are the best troubleshooting steps to repair your Outlook email account.

1. Fix Outlook by Verifying Your Internet Connection?

An unstable or weak internet connection could block Outlook from receiving or sending emails.

Restart your modem or Wi-Fi router.

Attempt to open a webpage on your browser to test internet connectivity.

Disable any VPN if you are connected through one and try to use Outlook.

2. Restart Your Computer and Outlook?

Minor issues are sometimes resolved with a simple restart.

Close Outlook completely via Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) > End Task.

Reboot your computer and restart Outlook.

3. Update Outlook to Latest Version ?

Older software can be a performance hog.

Open Outlook and navigate to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.

Make sure Windows is current by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

4. Verify Your Email Server Settings ✉️

Incorrect server settings can result in sending or receiving problems.

Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.

Choose your e-mail account and click Change.

Make sure the incoming and outgoing server settings are the same as they are given by your email provider (IMAP, POP3, or Exchange).

5. Repair Your Outlook Data File (PST/OST) ????

If Outlook takes a long time to respond or is frozen, your data file could be corrupted.

Close Outlook.

Open File Explorer and navigate to:

makefile

Copy

Edit

C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\root\\OfficeXX

(XX is your Office version, e.g., Office16 for Office 2016)

Locate SCANPST.EXE (Inbox Repair Tool) and execute it.

Click on Browse, choose your PST/OST file, and click Start to fix.

6. Delete and Re-add Your Email Account ????

If your account is not syncing correctly, attempt removing and re-adding it.

Click on File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles.

Choose your email account and click Remove.

Restart Outlook, then re-add the account using your credentials.

7. Disable Interfering Add-ins ⚙️

Outlook add-ins may, at times, interfere with the performance.

Run Outlook in Safe Mode:

Windows + R, type:

bash

Copy

Edit

outlook.exe /safe

Enter.

If the Outlook is alright in Safe Mode, disable add-ins:

Go to File > Options > Add-ins.

Click Manage COM Add-ins > Go, deselect redundant add-ins, and restart Outlook.

8. Verify Your Antivirus & Firewall Settings ????

Some antiviruses block the connection of Outlook. Temporarily switch off your antivirus and see if Outlook is functioning.

Make sure Outlook is permitted in Windows Firewall configuration.

9. Fix Microsoft Office ????

If Outlook still doesn't work:

Navigate to Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features.

Choose Microsoft Office, Change > Quick Repair.

If this doesn't help, use Online Repair.

10. Reinstall Outlook ????

If none of the above works, remove and reinstall Outlook:

Remove Outlook through Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.

Get the latest version from Microsoft's official website and install it.

By doing these, you can repair most Outlook email problems and have smooth operation again! ?
